Two Generations Intertwined

Everyone has a definition of when young adulthood age ends. Some say ages from eighteen to twenty-five, some say ages from eighteen to thirty, some say ages from eighteen to thirty-five, and some say ages from eighteen to thirty-nine. Multiple people say that the thirties are still young. Why are we rushing to be older? When we were growing up we could not wait to get to young adulthood now we have made it to this age and say we are not young. When I thought of people in their late twenties and early thirties I watched shows like Girlfriends, Happy Endings, and Sex and the City. These people were young, ambitious, and had goals. They had an active social life by frequently visiting the newest restaurants and clubs. We are at the age when others still call their thirties young. So, why do we say it is not in the young adult age range?

Many millennials are in the eighteen to thirty-five age range. The majority of millennials are in the eighteen to thirty-nine age range. Only the first four out of the fifteen years of millennials are in their early forties. Younger millennials are in their late twenties and early thirties. They are in the phase of finishing advanced degrees, working up the career ladder, dating and marriage, buying homes, and still carving out a life for themselves. Millennials are in the youth category but now share a youth perspective with Generation Z.

Generation Z in the youth section of the eighteen to twenty-five age range or eighteen to thirty age range. We see Generation Z in the coming-of-age stories and perspectives of what they want to impact this world. Millennials are still giving their ideas and making marks in the world.

The age range of Generation Z is between twelve and twenty-six. The youngest of the generation is still in primary school. And, the oldest millennials are in the early stages of middle age. We now have articles about both generations on home ownership and styling and magazines like Comsopolation geared towards women in their twenties and thirties, with youth culture aimed toward both generations this decade. It can get confusing to determine which generation is younger than the world population.

When Time magazine published its story on the Me Me Me generation in 2013 this was when millennials were at the ages of seventeen to thirty-two. This was the peak decade for millennials in their coming-of-age years and young adulthood, with thousands of articles and news segments talking about the newest generation regarding dating, technology, pop culture, and work style. Most millennials were in their twenties and thirties in the 2010s decade. The media just had to say what millennials are thinking about when it comes to youth problems. But, as we have entered the 2020s decade we can ask both generations about youth pop culture

You can ask millennials what needs to be done for home, work, dating, marriage, and pop culture. You can ask Generation Z the same thing along with continuing school, finding your passion, and living on your own for the first time. You can see what both the younger generation is thinking about while they are young. Have input and a voice on hot new restaurants, new media trends, and what the leadership of this country could look like.

We are in the decade of millennials and Generation Z shares with the youth equally on what is like to be young. Both have unique qualities of both in the eighteen to thirty-nine age range. Of what it is like for the first generation to come of age during the twenty-first century. Let’s hear it from the two younger generations.

I’m a baby boomer and don’t care for most millennials, these people seem full of themselves and want everything handed to them on a gold platter. Just my two cents…
